How cam sites pay you (and why percentages mislead)

Updated 26 September 2026

Every cam site advertises its payout differently: “up to 60% revenue share”, “keep 100% of your tokens”, “45% starting commission”, “$0.05 per token”. These numbers aren’t measured against the same thing, so comparing them directly is a mistake that costs performers money.

The two basic models

Token sites

Chaturbate, Stripchat, BongaCams, Cam4 and CamSoda sell tokens to viewers. Viewers spend tokens on tips, tip menus and paid shows in your room. The platform then pays you a fixed dollar amount per token, commonly around $0.05 on the biggest token sites.

Viewers pay different prices for tokens depending on the package size and promotions, but your token value usually stays the same. That’s why a “revenue share %” on a token site is an estimate. It depends on what viewers paid, which you don’t control or see.

What to compare: the dollar value per token to you.

Per-minute sites

XCams, LiveJasmin, Visit-X, XLoveCam and IsLive earn mainly from paid chats billed per minute. You receive a commission percentage of what the viewer spends, sometimes calculated on a “net” price after VAT, payment costs and chargeback risk (XCams publishes it this way).

What to compare: your per-minute price multiplied by the commission, and how often visitors actually go private.

Why the headline number isn’t the whole story

What you actually take home depends on:

  1. The base the percentage is taken from: gross price, net price, or a fixed token value.
  2. Conversion: a lower share on a site where viewers readily pay can beat a higher share on a site where they rarely do.
  3. Unpaid time: token rooms involve time performing for free viewers; per-minute sites involve time in free chat persuading visitors.
  4. Payout fees and currency conversion: a $6 wire fee or a 3% e-wallet fee comes out of your pocket (see payout methods).
  5. Levels and bonuses: some sites (LiveJasmin, XCams) raise your share as you earn more or refer people; levels can reset each period.

New-model boosts

Most sites give new performers extra visibility for a while: a “New” tag, homepage placement, or discounted rates for viewers. Stripchat, for example, advertises a two-week boost. Boosts are useful for gathering followers, but:

  • they’re short and often poorly documented;
  • your first-week income is not a forecast of later months;
  • what matters is the traffic you keep after the boost ends.

A quick worked example (no promises)

On a token site, 1,000 tokens received × $0.05 = $50 before payout fees. On a per-minute site with a 45% commission on a €1.00/minute net price, a 20-minute private show earns €9 before fees. Neither tells you how many tokens or private minutes you’ll get. That depends on your hours, audience and show, which is why we don’t publish income forecasts. Before you sign up, ask support

  • What is one token (or one paid minute) worth to me in dollars or euros?
  • Is the commission calculated on the gross or net price?
  • What’s the minimum payout per method, and what does each method cost?
  • Are there levels, and do they reset?
